Congratulations to Sue Seaver, 2009 Volunteer of the Year!

Sue Seaver has been active with the Little League Softball World Series for over 15 years and is currently its Tournament Director. Along with running the tournament, Sue finds “host” homes for the wonderful young ladies from around the world who compete. To all the participants, she is simply known as "Mom." We are thrilled to have Sue as our honoree.

A Note from Friends of Baseball ~

Dear Oregon Little League Administrators,

My son and I had the opportunity to meet many of you during your state conference in Eugene in December of 2007. I would first like to give all of you a "tip of the cap" for all that you and your leagues have provided over the past couple of years; you're amazing work is awesome!

Recently we announced our expansion to Lane County. The goal of our Trustees is to one day serve the entire state once funding and resources can be sustained to effectively do so. Currently we are serving Portland south to Lane County, the Oregon Coast south to Lane County and east to The Dalles as it relates to grant making. We just might be able to help other regions outside this area in other ways - read below. . .

For more information please visit: www.friendsofbaseball.org

How Might FOB Better Work with You?

We are excited to be partnering with all of you to insure our grant making and resources are reaching out to those leagues where the needs are the greatest and most deserving. In the past we have relied on a much smaller group to be our "eyes, ears and voice" relating to making our resources known. In all honesty this has not been very effective. In one case this past summer we announced a second coach and volunteer of the year celebration in the mid valley. Unfortunately 2 - $1,000 grants never found a home, simply for lack of nominations.

We Currently Serving Youth Baseball and Softball in Many Ways . . .

Grant funding in the region we serve. Please think of us as your first safety net in the event a deserving team finds itself in peril. Secondly, in areas where there is strong community support we can provide funding and resources to assist in completing needed refurbishments and upgrades where true partnership is evident. Coaches' Clinic available to all coaches in Oregon & S.W. Washington. We have had wonderful response to this January event in Portland, and doubled attendance in 2009. We have amazing coaches giving back to the most important area in our sport. Watch for dates and times for the 2010 Clinic. There is a nominal fee of $30 per league for participation and refreshments, regardless of number of attendees from your league or team! Coach and Volunteer of The Year Awards. This program is intended to pay tribute to the wonderful coaches and volunteers in our region. We partner with the Portland Beavers, Salem Volcanoes and next year with the Eugene Emeralds. Each region will have a coach and volunteer honored. In the honorees name, their individual league will receive a $1,000 grant from FOB and our co-sponsors. Yes 6-$1,000 grants will be made in this form in 2010. Counties served based on co-sponsors request: Multnomah, Washington, Clackamas, Marion, Benton, Linn, Polk, Lane Counties in Oregon; Clark County Washington. Youth Baseball drills and clinic. We also partner with the Corvallis Knights to sponsor this event at beautiful Goss Field (home of the OSU Beavers) each June. The Knights coaches and players conduct this clinic with six stations working on drills to help keep the game fun! A Knights game follows, and an opportunity for participants to "sleep over" on the field. (movies and breakfast included) This is a great day and evening of pure baseball. Please stay in touch . . .

We are constantly searching and reviewing ways we might better assist your efforts. I hope you will contact me personally with any and all thoughts that might better "grease your slides" and enhance what you are collectively accomplishing in our region for baseball and softball.

We have recently developed a Fan Page that provides not only some of our "Headlines," but will soon provide coaching videos, an interactive forum for coaches and teams, online chats with prominent coaches, and stories of our teams and what they may need or have to offer. We hope you will join active forum for youth baseball.

We have been invited to attend this year's Oregon Little League conference in December. I look forward to seeing you!

Lastly, I'd like to ask you to forward this along by email to the individual league contacts in your district. There is much to be accomplished in the months and years ahead!

Hope to hear from you; see you in December. . . .
